Cloverfield and U2 3d

Watched a couple movies this weekend, one being the new Cloverfield monster movie. I have to admit I really had low expectations for this movie. Those low expectations must have helped because it was a really really good time. The realism of feeling like your just a bunch of kids on the ground trying to survive was surreal. I can't put it any better than that, think of 911, think of Pearl Harbor, think of whatever disaster comes next. Either way this movie feels like I would imagine people felt being on the ground in situations like that. Adrenaline keeping them going and just trying to get through the ordeal.

The kids weren't exactly smart, but lets face it they live in New York. I would have preferred a different personal point of view but I think this one appeals to a bigger audience. All in all Abrams did a really good job at creating a unique monster movie and the best movie I've seen in a long time. Its just too bad it didn't come out last summer during the most terrible season of movies ever.

U2 3D

This was a spur of the momment viewing, a friend of mine had tickets he got to an advance screening of the show that came here for sundance. His wife didn't want to go so he called me up and invited me. I wasn't expecting much, just a concert like show on an imax screen. Didn't really think it would be too great just enjoyable because U2 is awesome anyways.

I couldn't have been more wrong. This was by far the most impressive display of 3d I have ever seen. Not only was this movie in 3d, it was in DIGITAL. Yes thats right, the movie was shot in digital not on film. They have shots in this movie that are so amazingly detailed you pretty much feel like Bono is right in front of you and like giving you a hug and stuff. At the beginning , I won't spoil it but there is a feeling that your getting water thrown all over you, its unreal. Along with him in your face, the band and guitars were always inches from you. And the crowd, the crowd! I felt like I was actually there, they have shots that make it look like you are standing in the crowd at the concert. I honestly wanted to stand up and clap and cheer just like I was really there. The Brazilian, South American people just have so much energy and add a lot of excitement to the film.

I highly recommend checking this out, its much more than a concert experience.
